If you are having trouble reaching your goals either losing weight or gaining lean muscle follow these simple suggestions of easy ways to increase your metabolism.
1. GAIN LEAN MUSCLE
Gaining lean muscle is one of the easiest ways to speed up the metabolism. Studies show each pound on new muscle burns an extra 100-200 calories a day.
2. AFTERBURN
As I have written in previous bulletins intensity is so important. The number #1 reason you should train at intense levels is the after burn this type of cardio creates. Often times you burn an extra 100-300 calories a day following intense cardio.
3. FOOD CHOICE AND NUTRIENT TIMING, DON’T FORGET YOUR WATER!!
When and what you eat can manipulate your metabolism. Eating smaller meals more often during the day can increase your metabolic rate. Also, limiting carbohydrates two hours before bedtime can help. American’s are consuming too little water!! We need to stop drinking soda’s, flavored coffee’s, and juices full of sugar and start drinking high quality H2O (ex. Fuji, Smart water, and others not made by Pepsi or Coke). The average American is consuming 400 calories a day from liquids, a little much?
4. EXERCISE CHOICE
Doing the right exercises can really get your body pumped and primed. Exercises that involve multiple joints burn more calories. Typical workouts should include: dead lifts, squats, lunges, pull-ups, and pushups.
5. MOVING
Keep moving!! Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk the dog an extra time during the day. Park your car at the edge of the lot instead of searching for that close spot. Whatever you do to keep you moving more increases the calories you burn.
