Colorado is known for being one of the fittest states in the country. It is clearly obvious the rest of the country is not. I live in the Highlands in Denver and my gym is on the eastern end of downtown. Driving through town this past week I have noticed the national media, delegates, and other public officials, are not into health and fitness like my fellow Coloradoans. A good barometer for my thoughts is the amount of customers at the closest health food store to downtown (Cherry Creek Whole Foods), the normal activity at the most popular park in Denver (Washington Park), and the amount of people eating at (Wendy's, Popeye's Chicken, and McDonald's). My two fitness barometers had no difference in activity this week and the worst food restaurants in Denver and the rest of America were packed. The highlight of my week was attending the Rage Against the Machine concert yesterday and afterwords watching the protesters from the Iraq Veterans Against the War. These protesters were the only people I witnessed with anything to do with the convention who were actually exercising. These protesters walked over 10 miles from the Denver Coliseum to the Pepsi Center to get their message clear. Welcome to Denver, America, now go home so we can get back to normal.
